Stop Wasting Time and Go After the Life You've Always Wanted

As I get older, I become much more attuned to the fact that life is picking up the pace. Three years ago, I started my university degree and now, I'm entering into my last year. Time truly does fly, and it's been a useful lesson to me that we really need to appreciate life and stop wasting time. When I was growing up, all throughout elementary school and high school, I wished so badly for time to fly so that I could be older and more in charge of my life. But now that I'm here, it's scary, confusing and not as fun as I thought it would be. We drift apart from our childhood friends, have a dwindling back account and most of our hopes and dreams are pushed to the side thanks to settling for a paycheque and working the nine to five.

Movies, reality television and other entertainment platforms are another element of how I realized how much time I was wasting in my life. I've been constantly waiting for my "movie moment." By that, I mean that part in the movie where the main characters gets their life together while a happy-go-lucky song plays in the background. Think of the movie Bridesmaids where the main character, Annie, starts taking charge of her "shitty" life by baking again and trying to get back together with her love interest.

Life is not like that, though - that two hour movie ends and you're back in reality, where your head should have been all along.

Living your life through others is not ideal, yet so many of us do it. You won't get the life that you've always dreamed of by watching others through a television screen. So, my pledge is to screw waiting for my movie moment and rather, go out and get it. Follow your passions, listen to your gut, stick to your heart and what it wants and go after life. We only have one shot, and why look back and regret the things you didn't do?
